So it's saving Kakyoin, forgetting that Kakyoin's never needed to be saved, not really, because he's never been helpless. But maybe it's saving Kakyoin because he hadn't gotten to last time, because this time he knows what to do, because this time it's gonna be different. Because this time, nobody's gonna be possessed, nobody's getting hurt, nobody's dying, not here, not now.
(Hadn't he said that to Abbacchio? Now that he knows the future, he can change it. Now that he knows how the story goes, he can make it better, make it right, make it so he and Kakyoin never ever ever go through that again).
So it's getting fucked up a little, a lot, but what's a battle without a little blood?
So it's this, now, dashed in some alleyway, blood still flowing and his adrenaline hopping, Chariot faded into the background not out of choice but necessity. Voices still echo near them, they're hardly out of the fire just yet, but at least nobody's seemed to figure it out.]
You all right?
[For fuck's sake.]

Goddamn it, Polnareff. It's completely unnecessary and it annoys him on instinct, that Polnareff is in some mood where he thinks Kakyoin needs the oh-so-terrifying hordes of locals fought off for him.
But okay! Okay. This is happening now, and then they're ducked hastily into some alley, and Polnareff has already overworked himself because of course he has— unbelievable! Kakyoin glances at Chariot fading and then gives Polnareff a look. Did he not learn in the desert???]
What are you doing? Don't worry about me.

[It's stupid, maybe, but he's not exactly known for his clear and logical thinking on the best of days, never mind now. He glances towards the mouth of the alley, grimaces, and adds:]
Just give me your damn hand.
[It's rude to grab, but here he is, doing just that. Aggression and impulsiveness, that's what his changes bring, but for Polnareff it's really more than they amplify what's there.
And the contact is all well and good, but not good enough.]

Come on.
[He squeezes that hand for emphasis and turns to lead them further down the alley. Either there's another street at the other end or they'll have to use what energy he has left for Hierophant to scale up to a rooftop; both of these options are better than waiting around to get into a fight in this state.]
I wasn't getting banged up, for the record.

[Not to the point of shock, though. Nothing that he hasn't endured before. But he follows Kakyoin obediently enough, and when the alley ends in brick and a few trashcans, he glances upwards.]
C'mon. We can camp out there for a few minutes.
[And he can see if he's, like, bleeding to death anywhere or something, that's also useful. He shifts, pulling his hand away so he can wrap an arm around his hips, because it'll be hard enough to yank them both up without making it physically uncomfortable.]
